Funding for Programs Empowering Female Research Scientists in Louisiana (USA)
GrantID: 75400
Grant Funding Amount Low: $25,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $25,000
Summary
This opportunity is aimed at promising young women interested in research careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). It’s a merit‑based award that combines financial support with networking and mentoring opportunities. While the name “award” suggests prestige, it functions a lot like a fellowship or scholarship for graduate work or early academic training.
There are multiple tiers of awardees each cycle: one top “gold” awardee, two “silver” awardees, and a group of scholars recognized as well. The gold award provides up to $75,000 (delivered as $25,000 per year for up to three years in graduate school). The silver awards are $25,000 each (for a graduate program). The scholars (finalists) receive a smaller scholarship—about $2,000—when they enroll in college. All participants also get access to introductions, networking, lab tours, internships, or similar career‑building supports.
Eligibility is fairly specific: applicants must be female high school seniors located in or attending school within Louisiana or Mississippi. They must intend to pursue a research‑based graduate degree in a STEM field (non‑clinical, non‑health professional track). Applicants interested solely in medical or clinical degrees are typically excluded unless their course is strongly research‑oriented.
The selection is competitive, and the emphasis is on demonstrated STEM achievement, drive, and readiness to commit to the research path.
If selected, recipients may use the funds for tuition, travel/conferences, lab or research expenses, housing, or other graduate school costs. Recipients are also expected to participate in the community of scholars and may be asked to attend an awards event or contribute a short presentation or biography.
While it’s structured around Louisiana and Mississippi, awardees may attend institutions outside those states. The program is not open to nonprofits, small businesses, or individuals outside that high school / early research pipeline scope. It is strictly for individual scholars meeting the eligibility.
Organizations and individuals based in Louisiana who are engaged in Education may be eligible to apply for this funding opportunity. To discover more grants that align with your mission and objectives, visit The Grant Portal and explore listings using the Search Grant tool.
